About Us

•  What is the purpose of this website?

This website has been developed by a diverse group of concerned Massachusetts citizens for the purpose of exposing the deceptive presentation, dangerous flaws, and flagrant squandering of tax payer's hard earned money. People are being hurt, budgets are being decimated and precious political energy that could be channeled toward other pressing matters is being diverted in the wrong direction.

Real People for Real Health Care Reform does not receive funding from nor are we sponsored by any coalition, organization, business or otherwise vested interest.

Why is this Massachusetts "Landmark experiment in universal health care" important to the rest of the country?

Although described as a "landmark" development in healthcare, this law is better described as a "land mine" because it was conceived without public knowledge or full disclosure. Perhaps the term "landslide" might also be a better description as costs spiral out of control and ever growing numbers of residents are trapped in inadequate, unaffordable insurance plans or criminalization, tax penalties and concomitant lack of medical care.

It has been repeatedly described as "sweeping", but it might be more truthfully depicted as sweeping truth, fairness and the painful reality of a personal mandate under the rug of public view.

This law was devised and propelled by politicians and insurance companies as a solution to the alarming cost of state-funded medical care. The law was formulated on the concept of healthcare as commercial commodity and cloaked in inflammatory, ideological slogans such as "shared responsibility", "no free riders" and "ownership society".

These ideas may have appeal to the American values of independence and self-determination, but we believe that free market, for-profit health care is ineffective, wasteful, highly discriminatory and dangerous. This is proven by

Massachusetts-style health insurance
is NOT what
the doctor
ordered!

Health Care is a right for all

the fact that although the United States is the richest country in the world
and spends far more on health care than anyone else, we have dismal records in disease and mortality as compared to all other industrialized nations.

As much of the country has been watching Massachusetts as a possible model for a solution to what is now called the "health care crisis", this website aims to inform and educate all concerned about the ineffectiveness and harsh realities of such a scheme while debunking the propaganda of those who would profit from this law. We have accurately revealed the facts behind the misrepresentations and outright untruths that have been widely reported by an obediently-herded media. Many people's quality of life have been adversely impacted by this scheme while bureaucrats and politicians waste money trying to accelerate their careers and line the pockets of the insurance industry. It makes no sense to throw money at this obviously flawed model whether it is slated to continue in the Bay State or become the basis for the national plan. We also realize that the many millions of Americans who will not be able to afford the so-called public option currently on the table in D.C. will fall prey to the grave harms described on this website.

How is this law harmful to the citizens of Massachusetts and everyone in the U.S.A.?

There are many health care proposals making their way through governmental and political channels at this time. Nearly all of these plans are based at least partly on the Massachusetts "experiment". If widely copied, we believe that there would be deep harm to our country's already stumbling economy and a continued erosion of people's health and well-being. We believe that the future of both our state and our country depend on optimal physical and mental health in order to regain our national stature and to ensure our future prosperity. We believe that health care is a right, not a privilege.

We believe that the Massachusetts healthcare mandate deprives our society of this basic human need while financially benefiting the medical industrial complex, stock holders, highly paid lobbyists and well connected bureaucrats. We see this as a misguided model for America and its future. The Massachusetts insurance law must be defeated in order to make way for true healthcare reform.

Why would our leaders support the Massachusetts health insurance law?

Political power brokers have obvious reasons to promote the Massachusetts healthcare mandate law. The intended outcomes are advantageous for both political status, personal financial gain and/or for forwarding ideological agendas. Nationally, these pressures are exacerbated because the "disease care" industry is  now spending $1.4 million every day to lobby lawmakers against implementing significant health reforms, according to the Washington Post-July 6, 2009 . This mirrors the untold millions used to influence Massachusetts politicians and the media during the enactment, execution and maintenance of the mandate. Called "a stimulus package for lobbyists" by the New York Times, we must not let this stand.

This law was not selflessly designed with the intent of providing equitable medical services to those in need, but rather to acquire Federal money for the state and private insurance companies ("leverage Federal funding") under the seemingly helpful guise of health care and the ideological excuse of "personal responsibility".

Instead, this law takes money from ordinary people and gives it to a medical insurance industry that profits handsomely from this legally enforced corporate welfare, all while purposely depriving citizens of their basic human right to medical care.
